Preventive Dental Care in Houston

Houston Uptown Dentists offers a number of dental care services that transform smiles, but our top priority is ensuring patients achieve and maintain the optimal level of oral health. Preventive dentistry is about more than teeth cleanings and checkups. It’s about helping patients preserve healthy, natural smiles for a lifetime. In the past, people assumed that tooth loss and oral health deterioration were a natural part of aging, but with advances in professional dentistry and at-home hygiene, more patients than ever are able to keep smiling beautifully every day at every age. Twice a year dental checkups are the first step toward a lifetime of healthy smiles, and we hope you’ll trust Houston Uptown Dentists with yours.

Dental Checkups & Professional Cleanings

Our dental checkups and professional cleanings go beyond the basic offering patients truly comprehensive dental care to help them achieve and maintain the optimal level of oral health. Each checkup and cleaning appointment includes four parts:

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism, commonly referred to as teeth grinding, affects millions of people in the US. While the unconscious grinding and clenching of teeth may not seem like a huge issue, this habit leads to dental wear, chips, and jaw muscle strain over time. Because most patients experience bruxism during sleep, it’s difficult to change the behavior, but with oral appliance therapy at our Houston office, we protect patients’ smiles from potential damage. Nightguards create a barrier between teeth protecting them from the potential damage of bruxism.

BPA-Free Dental Sealants

Our practice strongly advocates sealants for both adults and children. A sealant is a plastic material that fills in the pits and grooves on the chewing surfaces of teeth to prevent future decay. Most cavities form in the pits and grooves of teeth in the back of your mouth. Sealants serve as a barrier protecting posterior teeth from decay. Our sealants do not contain the chemical BPA (Bisphenol-A) that the FDA has advised may be harmful to children. Our hygienists and dentists place sealants without the use of anesthetic or drilling. Properly placed and maintained sealants prevent tooth decay for ten or more years.
